This course is the first in a three-quarter sequence and develops basic communication skills in everyday contexts. Grammatical structures and vocabulary are introduced through interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication. Elements of Vietnamese culture are incorporated. A service-learning component introduces students to the local Vietnamese-speaking community through visits to community centers and engagement with guest speakers. This course is certified as a Cardinal Course by the Haas Center.
