What is "China"? What does it mean to "provincialize" China? This course focuses on rethinking China from the margins, within and without, through an inclusive and intersectional study of China as diverse and plural site of investigation. The readings in this seminar offer an emphasis on comparative histories and wide-ranging ethnographies of traditionally marginalized communities who are often rendered invisible within a leveling conception of China.
