The process of lighting design for live performance encompasses a great deal of behind-the-scenes work that the audience will never see when they come to enjoy a show in a theatre. However, to bring a lighting design to successful completion, designers need to have solid plans and paperwork in place before they even get behind the lighting desk. This course guides students through the theoretical and practical aspects of lighting design for live performance. We will work on paper projects where we dissect the text of plays and create preproduction materials such as design presentations, sketches, paperwork, and cue sheets. This course places an emphasis on creating light plots in Vectorworks and lighting paperwork in Lightwright.
