Enrollment is limited to MD candidates. Foundations of Medicine II provides an integrated study of the cellular and organ system basis of disease, with emphasis on cancer biology, pathology, and the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Students examine the molecular, cellular, and tissue mechanisms underlying normal development, cell growth and differentiation, injury and repair, inflammation, and neoplasia, and explore the epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The course also integrates anatomy, histology, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, infectious diseases, and therapeutics to develop an understanding of the structure, function, and diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Clinical cases, laboratory experiences, pathology specimens, diagnostic imaging, and treatment planning activities are used throughout the course to connect foundational biomedical science with patient care.
