(Same as GSBGID EDUC 513) Philanthropy: Strategy, Impact & Leadership will empower you with the skills, experience, and inspiration to begin mapping a life legacy of generosity and engage in high-impact philanthropy-regardless of what type and size of resources you have to invest. This course will provide a formal space to define and refine your social passions and purpose and equip you with the knowledge and practical tools to translate your financial, human, network, and intellectual capital into measurable change. You will develop the skills to map social ecosystems, identify points of opportunity, create investment criteria and a theory of change for philanthropic initiatives, and assess nonprofits operationally and financially. Finally, you will participate in a real-time, grantmaking practicum. This experience will entail student-led nonprofit assessments, peer reviews and a class selection process to fund two Silicon Valley nonprofits, each with a $EDUC 10,EDUC 000 grant from Andreessen Philanthropies. Regardless of your profession, industry, background, age, or asset portfolio, this course will amplify your ability to make your giving, service, and leadership matter more. This is a Cardinal Course certified by the Haas Center or Public Service.
