Photographic portraiture has the potential to challenge perspectives, amplify voices, and drive social change. This course investigates how portraiture can be used as a tool for activism and empathy, addressing critical issues such as human rights, inequality, environmental concerns, and cultural identity. Through historical and contemporary research, students will explore how to address social justice through photography and analyze the impact of portraiture on public discourse. Focused on studio lighting, this is an intermediate course in photography, with an ongoing emphasis on operating manual camera settings (focus, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, color temp/ white balance). Students continue to work with Lightroom/Photoshop as file management systems and refine photo editing and sequencing.
