This course will cover the design, analysis, and realization of origami-inspired engineering artifacts. The course will cover mathematical foundations (polyhedra, angular defect, Gaussian curvature, kinematics), elementary analysis and design principles (flat folding conditions, rigid folding, fold pattern design methods), structural modeling (bar-and-hinge modeling, finite element analysis), and implementation and realization challenges (thick-panel origami, materials and actuation). Assignments will include analysis, numerical modeling, and physical realization.
