Basic concepts for plasmas, namely, ionized gases, including Coulomb collisions, transport and confinement, plasma-material interaction, and plasma sheath. Fundamental theories, including magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and two-fluid equations for fully and partially ionized plasmas, equilibrium and stability, fluid and kinetic instabilities, Vlasov equation and Landau damping, and plasma-wave interaction. Students who are interested in plasma physics and engineering are encouraged to take AA 244A and AA 244B.
