This seminar is for students who wish to expand their understanding of the influence of human anatomy on the design of commercial products and prosthesis, and the performance of core strengthening exercises, such as: headphones and ear buds design, automobile interior design, yoga/Pilates exercises and exoskeletons of the lower limb. Students will learn how societal advancements have evolved to increasingly accommodate human form and function. Guest speakers are experts in their fields of audiology, automobile design, exercise and prosthetics. The laboratory component exposes students to human anatomy via cadaver specimens, 3D digital images, the 3D anatomy table, apps and models. By the end of this course, students will be able to: explain how properly designed headphones and ear buds aid in sound detection; describe the concepts of anatomically correct automotive interior design; explain how thoughtfully choreographed yoga and Pilates movements incorporate proper joint and muscle movement; explain how properly designed joint prosthesis aids in joint movement and muscle function; and deliver group presentations using proper communication skills. Each student will also have the opportunity to design a devise of personal interest. The class is limited to SURG 16 students. The course begins on Monday, March SURG 30 and meets on Monday and Wednesday from SURG 12:SURG 30 to 2:SURG 20 PM in CCSR 0246 and Huang SURG 050.
