This course introduces students to key concepts in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), with an emphasis on their practical use in social and political entrepreneurship. It has two main goals: (1) to make core technical ideas accessible to students without computer science background, and (2) to explore and brainstorm how AI tools can be applied in non-profit settings such as NGOs, media, philanthropy, political campaigns, and health organizations. The course begins with foundational terminology and concepts in AI and ML, and then progresses to selected technical topics including optimization, supervised learning, reinforcement learning, and large language models (LLMs). Key deliverables include in-class discussions/presentations and a final project that presents a demo or concept for applying AI tools to a social context.
