In this studio and art course, we shall investigate a variety of approaches, techniques, and processes in drawing. In addition, we shall take advantage of Madrid's first rate museums and their rich collections of paintings and drawings by Goya, Velázquez, Picasso, and Dalí in order to explore further the experience of drawing. We shall explore subject matter such as the figure, still life, interiors, landscape, and non-representational drawing. As we shall visit and explore a different Spanish master approximately every two and a half weeks, with each type of subject matter, we will also investigate different readings, media, and concepts. The class will be conducted as a workshop with the first few minutes devoted to discussion of work students have brought in and the remainder of the class left for drawing. Museum visits will focus on the work of one of the four artists with tie to study and explore the work and learn approaches and attitudes that could possibly influence your own work. The course is designed for students interested in Spanish art and in drawing, either with or without previous experience.
