This course will introduce students to contested concepts and theories of exhibition, performance and display - especially as they intersect with questions of race, ethnicity, sexuality and embodiment. We will meet with a select group of contemporary curators, performers and critics. In the second half of the class, there will be an opportunity for practical work as well as the visits to several local Bay Area Museums, galleries and performance spaces.
