VISITING: Closed to visitors. TYPE OF CLERKSHIP: Elective. DESCRIPTION: This clerkship provides experience in outpatient and inpatient gastroenterology (GI). In the mornings, students will evaluate outpatients referred to GI clinic and will also have an opportunity to observe outpatient endoscopic procedures, including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, paracentesis, ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. In the afternoons, students will evaluate inpatients who require GI consultation, observe inpatient procedures and participate in inpatient rounds with the GI team. Students will assume primary responsibility for the inpatients they provide consultation on. In addition to direct patient care, students will attend multiple didactic lectures and conferences, including a bi-weekly GI/Surgery conference, bi-weekly GI Radiology conference, bi-weekly GI Journal Club, bi-weekly Liver Tumor Board, and weekly Stanford multi-disciplinary (GI/Surgery/Radiology/Pathology) Digestive Diseases Clinical Conference.
