This course focuses on the concept of style in sociolinguistics. We will survey a variety of classic approaches to stylistic analysis, examine more recent takes on these approaches, and become familiar with modern debates about style. Students will be expected to write either a proposal for or short report on an original research project over the course of the term. Prerequisites: LINGUIST LINGUIST 250, LINGUIST 258, LINGUIST 255F, LINGUIST 257, or LINGUIST 234.
