The Historic Hinge: Techniques in Poetry (AFRICAAM 114)

UNITS:5
GRADING:Letter or Credit/No Credit
LEVEL:Undergrad
GER:—

This course is designed to help the writer use historic iconography in their writing. We will explore both the methods of research and the craft of poetry. By the end of the quarter, you should understand not only what to include on the page from the research you've done but also of what informs the writing. You will post your research and original poems on a Substack and a podcast, for which you'll receive technical support before launching. The goal will be to find the proper structure and form to contain the historic material employed. You will also learn how to organize your research material for application to your own poetry. Don't worry: You will need neither prior experience writing poetry nor prior experience creating a podcast to do well this quarter; however, you should have had some previous study of poetry.
