This core course traces the global development of the modern literary genre par excellence through some of its great milestones. In this particular iteration, we focus on contemporary animal-themed novels from Africa, Asia, America, and Europe. We will read these novels with the aid of both foundational narratological scholarship and innovative approaches situated at the intersection of cognitive science and literary studies. All texts are available in English or English translation.
