Gain hands-on experience in short documentary production, documentary photography, audio storytelling, social media content creation, digital editing, and community engagement through interactive multimedia skills workshops, engaging classroom discussions, and real-world projects. Students in this course will collaborate with the community-serving environmental organization Climate Resilient Communities (CRC) to document climate change initiatives in Bay Area neighborhoods like Belle Haven, East Palo Alto, San Bruno, Redwood City, and North Fair Oaks. Our goal is to make a real-world impact by highlighting the resilience and challenges of local communities facing climate hazards. Emphasis on fundamental storytelling techniques and technical skills training using multimedia equipment. Includes extensive instructor and peer workshopping/critiquing of work and substantial out-of-class group project work. Limited class size. No previous multimedia experience necessary.
