Healthcare faces tremendous challenges of cost, quality and access. Technology such as AI and LLMs should help us generate solutions to these at scale, but we have yet to successfully link problems and solutions in an innovation model for the healthcare market (US and globally). This course will take on this challenge: early in the class we'll discuss some basic frameworks of the economics of technology and examine specific challenges in the healthcare system, and then we'll examine digital innovation in healthcare. Class will be a combination of case discussion and mini-lectures, and an occasional guest speaker. Concurrently, students will work individual or in teams to build a business model around innovation in healthcare. You can bring your own problem to class, but no pressure. We'll also make a list available of problems we have identified that could provide an opportunity for innovation and newco development.
